At Friendship Animal Hospital, we believe that prevention is the key to your pet's long-term health as well as minimizing the lifetime cost of care. This means our doctors highly recommend routine wellness exams, vaccinations, regular lab work, deworming and fecal checks, as well as medications to prevent heartworm, intestinal parasites, fleas, and ticks.

Your Annual Physical Exam will include

  • Listening to heart and lungs.
  • Examining teeth/oral cavity.
  • Full ophthalmologic exam — assessing vision and condition of eyes.
  • Palpating lymph nodes and abdomen.
  • Temperature, pulse, and respiration check.
  • Musculoskeletal examination.
  • Examining the condition of the ears and skin.

Vaccinations

Vaccination is the most important preventive medicine that you can offer your pet. We believe in individualized care for your pet. We will discuss your pet's lifestyle and make recommendations specific to your pet.

Fecal Testing

Intestinal parasites are present in the environment and can be easily picked up by your pet. Regular fecal checks and deworming are the best way to prevent parasitic disease and the transmission of intestinal parasites from pets to people.

Heartworm and Tick-Borne Disease

We recommend annual heartworm and tick-borne disease testing for your dog. We also recommend your pet be on year-round flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. We carry a range of products and will discuss the best option for your pet.

Nutritional and Weight Management Counseling

We will address your pet's individual nutritional needs. We will assess your pet's lifestyle, determine their caloric needs, and help implement a weight management or weight loss plan if needed.

Behavioral Health

We strongly believe in positive reinforcement and the strength of the human-animal bond. Your pet's mental health is just as important as their physical health. Animal behavior is a large part of our daily practice. We believe in low-stress handling and provide an atmosphere to keep your pet as comfortable as possible. We also offer general behavior counseling and tips at your wellness visits. If you are experiencing a specific behavior issue, please contact us to see if we can assist you in recommending a behavior specialist.

Puppy/Kitten Visits

We want nothing more than to get your pet off to a great start. We will address house-training, normal puppy/kitten behaviors (and proper modification techniques), individualized vaccination recommendations based on your pet's lifestyle, feeding recommendations, spay/neuter options, and any specific concerns you may have.

Microchipping

It is important that your pet have proper identification on at all times (a tag containing your name and phone number). Collars and tags are essential, but they can fall off or become damaged. A microchip offers a more permanent form of identification. We typically implant a microchip during spay/neuter procedures, but can do so at any time. We use HomeAgain brand microchips and will register them directly to you. It is important that should any of your information change, such as address or phone number, you contact HomeAgain to update your records. We have reunited many pets with their owners thanks to a microchip!
